Folded metasedimentary rock from Finse, Norway.

Norway has an extreme variety of rocks of all types. If you travel around Norway these days, make sure you explore the local varieties.

Identifying rocks can be challenging, even for geologists. My recent popular science book, Et land av stein (2022), is written for the lay person and is a good companion when exploring on your own. The book is not written as a hand book, but covers all rock types and an extensive selection of localities in Norway.

In addition to my recent book, check out my 2020 book about the geology and rocks of Oslo (Under asfalten).
Wherever you travel around the country, you can use the online geological maps of the Geological survey of Norway. They can be found here.
